On September 4th, OpenAI released its new flagship model, GPT-6 Astra, on Thursday, claiming that the model has made significant progress in commercial task areas such as financial modeling and engineering design. Initially, GPT-6 Astra will only be available to select institutions, including organizations participating in OpenAI's Daybreak Access cybersecurity program. Subsequently, the model will be gradually made available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users, as well as those using it via API and Amazon Web Services. OpenAI stated that GPT-6 Astra has shown significant improvements in computer operations, software programming, and professional work, achieving top scores in the FrontierMath Tier 1 math test, ARC-AGI 3 reasoning test, and ExploitBench cybersecurity test. Greg Brockman, co-founder and president of OpenAI, said that while the timeline for achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) has always been uncertain, looking back “in a few years,” this milestone “may be right around this period, right around this model.” In terms of pricing, GPT-6 Astra charges $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, which is 2.5 times the price of the previous flagship model, GPT-5.6 Sol. OpenAI also revealed that the future of the AI industry may shift towards a task-based pricing model, rather than the current token-based pricing. Brockman declared at the launch event, “Welcome to the AGI era.”
