This incident once again underscores the limitations of AI in outdoor settings: its route planning is based on the integration of publicly accessible online information, rendering it incapable of perceiving real-time dynamic changes such as terrain and weather conditions. Furthermore, it lacks the ability to assess users' physical capabilities, equipment, and emergency response skills.
Previously, a climber from Ningbo, Mr. Yang, blindly adhered to AI-generated directions, opting for a shortcut that led him through dense shrubbery and steep, slippery slopes repeatedly. Ultimately, he exhausted himself and became stranded deep in the mountains before being rescued by firefighters in the nick of time.
Fire departments have issued repeated warnings that routes generated by AI should only be used as references and not relied upon entirely. Climbers should opt for established trails and ensure they are adequately prepared with necessary supplies.
