Baidu's Basic Model Unit (BMU) has recently made a strategic move by onboarding a prominent researcher, Wu Qin, from a leading laboratory in North America. This addition is aimed at bolstering the pre-training prowess of Baidu's ERNIE large model. In a parallel development, Wei Haoran, a former researcher at DeepSeek, has joined BMU to take charge of the multimodal algorithms for ERNIE. Since stepping into his role as the head of BMU in July of this year, Sun Tianxiang has been at the forefront of spearheading dual advancements—both organizational and technological—for the ERNIE large model, ensuring it remains competitive with the latest international R&D trends.
