Between the evening of August 31st and September 1st, Douyin, a widely-used platform, encountered extensive service outages, resulting in a breakdown of its recommendation algorithm. Users reported that their homepages were inundated with content that they did not normally follow, rendering their usual preference filters ineffective. Despite attempts to indicate disinterest by clicking 'Not Interested' or rapidly swiping past unwanted content, low-quality videos continued to flood their screens. Moreover, certain users faced additional issues, such as blank search results pages and difficulties in sending or receiving private messages, highlighting partial failures in fundamental platform functions. As of the time of this report, Douyin has not issued any official response.
