Lead surgeon Professor Hani Marcus explained that while the average UK surgeon performs about 10 to 20 pituitary tumor removal surgeries annually, the AI system assisting in this operation was trained on data from hundreds of similar surgeries, giving it far more experience than most surgeons and making it a reliable assistant. Marcus also stated that their long-term goal is to develop a ChatGPT for surgeons, providing an additional expert to consult in the operating room, with doctors having the option to accept or reject its suggestions as needed.
