IBM announced today that it has successfully acquired research and development institution HRL Laboratories, LLC (HRL). HRL specializes in areas such as quantum computing, quantum sensing, advanced communications, electronics, manufacturing, and materials science. This acquisition will further drive IBM's innovation and investment in quantum manufacturing and infrastructure. HRL's expertise in silicon-based quantum technology lays the foundation for its future collaboration with IBM's pure quantum foundry, Anderon, helping to accelerate the learning cycle for various quantum computing models and support scalable manufacturing methods. Boeing and General Motors, as former owners of HRL, will continue to work hand in hand with IBM and HRL to jointly advance the research and development of quantum applications and advanced technologies. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
