On August 25, a Xiaomi spokesperson revealed that law enforcement has recently resolved numerous cases involving the malicious use of AI technology to spread false information about the company. These cases include two instances where administrative penalties were imposed in Shangqiu, Henan Province, and Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Additionally, there was a cyber mercenary case in which AI was exploited to disseminate rumors about Xiaomi and several other automakers. This case was cracked by the Jiading Public Security Bureau in Shanghai back in March, leading to criminal coercive measures against two suspects.
Furthermore, a criminal case involving the spread of rumors about Xiaomi through AI technology was solved by the Xi'an Cyber Police in June. This resulted in the arrest of three MCN (Multi-Channel Network) agencies and 14 suspects, with four individuals being criminally detained. Another novel type of cyber mercenary case, where AI was used to rewrite and fabricate rumors, was cracked by the Jinzhong Cyber Police in August. In this case, three suspects were apprehended after illegally profiting over 500,000 yuan.
All relevant infringing links have been removed, and the involved accounts have been deactivated. Xiaomi is committed to collaborating with public security authorities to combat such malicious activities and calls for collective efforts to purify the online public opinion environment surrounding businesses.
