The DAMO LiON, an AI model designed for liver cancer diagnosis, emerged from a collaborative effort between Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University, other institutions, and Alibaba DAMO Academy. Its research findings have now been published. By scrutinizing enhanced CT scans, this system excels at pinpointing small cancerous regions within the liver, especially in identifying metastatic lesions. Clinical tests confirm its ability to spot small malignant tumors that conventional diagnostic methods often overlook. It showcases superior performance in early-stage liver cancer detection compared to traditional approaches. Moreover, it reduces the time doctors need to spend on image review, boosts diagnostic precision, and helps junior physicians' diagnostic skills approach those of experienced specialists. Technologically, the model leverages an innovative neural network framework that combines image data from various scanning phases, enhancing its capacity to discern complex backgrounds and improving diagnostic consistency in challenging cases. Presently, the system has been integrated into the hospital's standard diagnostic and treatment workflow, ensuring both accuracy and efficiency in diagnosis through human-machine synergy.
