A recent report from Politico reveals that US congressional staff, along with external teams, have been turning to artificial intelligence (AI) with growing frequency to draft legislative proposals. Nevertheless, these AI-generated proposals frequently encounter problems, including inaccurate citations of legal provisions, definitions that lack clarity, and wording that is out of place. Wade Baloo, a former staffer at the US Congressional Legislative Counsel's Office, highlighted that although US government departments have embraced AI tools on a broad scale, relying on this error-prone technology for crafting legal texts could bring about substantial risks.
