On August 19, according to a Pew Research Center survey, skepticism toward artificial intelligence is growing among the youngest group of workers in the United States, who fear that technological advancements will trigger widespread job losses. Since the survey began in 2021, adults under 30 have, for the first time, expressed greater concern than excitement about AI. This result aligns broadly with other age groups, but the shift in attitude among the youngest cohort is particularly notable—they have moved from being the most optimistic about AI's potential to now being the most skeptical of the technology. The survey also noted that nearly 75% of adults under 30 believe AI will lead to fewer job opportunities, up from 61% two years ago. These findings further underscore the complex relationship young Americans have with AI: while they are among the most skilled users of the technology, AI also threatens the entry-level positions that have traditionally laid the foundation for their entry into the labor market.
