On August 19th, ECB President Lagarde warned in a speech at the headquarters of the World Economic Forum in Geneva that Europe cannot fall behind as artificial intelligence reshapes the global economy. She pointed out that there are signs that European companies are increasing their investments in AI, with about 9% of total investments by eurozone companies expected to be allocated to this field this year. Lagarde emphasized that Europe missed out on opportunities in the first round of the digital revolution, with most of the commercial benefits from the widespread adoption of information and communication technologies flowing to other regions. Therefore, Europe cannot afford to fall behind again in this second digital revolution driven by AI.
