On Monday, Round Hill Music, an independent music publisher, initiated legal proceedings in a California federal court against Anthropic and Suno. The publisher alleges that these two companies have improperly leveraged hundreds of its copyrighted musical compositions to train their artificial intelligence systems. Specifically, Anthropic is accused of using the lyrics from no fewer than 500 songs to train its chatbot, Claude. In a similar vein, Suno is alleged to have employed the same songs to refine its AI-driven music generation platform. Round Hill Music has indicated that the scope of the lawsuit may eventually encompass 10,000 or more songs, and it is pursuing damages that could reach nearly US$1 billion or exceed that amount. As of now, neither Anthropic nor Suno has issued a response regarding this legal matter.
