On August 13, during the Beijing Platform Economy Consultation Dialogue, it was disclosed that Meituan, Taobao Instant Delivery, and JD.com Food Delivery are set to be the trailblazers in adopting the 'Red Light Pause' policy in Beijing. Under this policy, the time riders spend waiting at traffic red lights will be excluded from their performance assessments. This month, these platforms will integrate red light data and finalize technical preparations. A pilot program will be initiated in September in select areas, including Chaoyang District, paving the way for a phased, city-wide implementation. The meeting also unveiled nine initiatives aimed at refining delivery algorithms. These include optimizing transfer delivery schedules, calculating delivery times based on an average speed capped at 15 kilometers per hour, providing additional time allowances during unfavorable weather and complex road conditions, and ensuring that delays in order preparation by merchants do not negatively impact riders' service scores. Furthermore, Meituan has introduced an AI assistant for riders named 'Tuanbao' in Beijing. This assistant offers five safety warning features, including alerts for red light waiting times, and is slated for nationwide promotion.
