Earlier, The Wall Street Journal had revealed that the two entities were engaged in negotiations. Established in 2023 and with its headquarters in San Francisco, USA, OpenRouter assists users in choosing diverse AI models to execute tasks according to their specific needs and financial constraints. It offers a unified access portal to circumvent vendor lock-in. In May of this year, the company secured $113 million in a Series B funding round, with its valuation reaching approximately $1.3 billion. Boasting 8 million users worldwide, it provides access to over 400 models. This acquisition is poised to furnish Stripe with a substantial competitive advantage in the swiftly expanding AI sector.
