Recently, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, publicly refuted accusations of exaggerating the pessimistic outlook on AI. Previously, investor Gavin Baker stated on podcasts and social media that Amodei's persistent warnings about the dangers of AI have fueled domestic resistance to data centers in the United States. In response, Amodei denied being responsible for the widespread doomsday sentiment toward AI among the public but acknowledged that the AI industry does face trust challenges. He pointed out that there is currently a false dichotomy: some believe that regulation leads to regulatory capture and power concentration, while others argue that widespread distribution of AI models (including open-source models) is the best way to mitigate technological risks. Amodei emphasized that institutional mechanisms such as courts can achieve decentralization of power and stated that Anthropic supports policies aimed at constraining the growth pace of leading AI companies while creating development advantages for smaller competitors. He also addressed his past public statements on AI, denying that they were overly pessimistic and noting that while his articles always present a balanced view of the risks and benefits of technology, social media often takes fragments out of context, portraying his remarks as extremely pessimistic.
