Specifically, certain teams will be integrated into Google's broader corporate framework, a strategic shift that will further diminish DeepMind's operational independence. Insiders have disclosed that Google co-founder Sergey Brin has been actively encouraging key AI personnel in recent months to dedicate their efforts to advancing the Gemini model and to pioneer new frontiers in AI, including 'recursive self-improvement.'

Post-restructuring, Demis Hassabis, the former head of DeepMind, will assume the role of chairman. Meanwhile, his deputy, Koray Kavukcuoglu, will step into the leadership position, wielding the authority to make final decisions on significant matters at DeepMind.

Sources further revealed that internal tests have indicated the new flagship Gemini model is lagging behind competitors in certain areas, such as programming. Consequently, Google has opted to postpone its release by two months.
