On August 12, foreign media outlets reported that South Korea rolled out a technology strategy on Wednesday, centering on seven key projects across nuclear energy, quantum computing, space exploration, biotechnology, and other cutting-edge domains. The country seeks to foster new growth drivers beyond semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI). The strategy outlines several ambitious targets: commercializing small modular reactors by 2035; accomplishing a moon landing by 2030; developing South Korea's inaugural 100-qubit quantum computer by 2029; and bringing brain-computer interface products to market by 2035. This initiative emerges amid South Korea's efforts to tackle a protracted economic slowdown and escalating global rivalry in emerging technologies. The Minister of Science and ICT emphasized that these projects will receive robust support to propel South Korea into an unparalleled position over the next 10 to 20 years.
