According to VentureBeat, Meta recently unveiled Muse Glimmer, an open-source model with 30 billion parameters that supports local operation of autonomous AI agents on consumer-grade Macs and PCs, shifting workloads previously reliant on the cloud to end-user devices. The model weights are now available on the Hugging Face platform under the Apache 2.0 open-source license, allowing unrestricted commercial use, modification, and redistribution. Muse Glimmer is specifically designed for agent tasks, supporting capabilities such as planning, tool invocation, result verification, and failure recovery, while maintaining operational reliability with 24GB of VRAM. Meta has also developed a ~4-bit quantized version, enabling the model to run on devices like RTX 3090, RTX 4090, and Apple Silicon Macs with 32GB+ memory, combined with DFlash speculative decoding technology to enhance generation speed.
