In July 2026, Uncle Wu, a 67-year-old farmer from Chuzhou, Anhui Province, suffered a catastrophic loss when he blindly trusted an AI-generated pesticide formula. He applied a herbicide containing fomesafen to his 150-acre (approximately 100 hectares) sesame field, causing the complete destruction of all sesame seedlings and weeds overnight. Fomesafen is a herbicide specifically designated for soybean fields and is strictly forbidden for use on sesame crops—a crucial piece of information that the AI failed to convey. Although there was a disclaimer displayed on the AI interface, Uncle Wu did not pay attention to it. Agricultural experts later highlighted that the AI's recommendation not only neglected fundamental agricultural principles but also failed to take into account the crop's tolerance levels, ultimately resulting in extensive herbicide-induced damage.
