On August 7, artificial intelligence research organization OpenAI announced that it has decided to suspend the development of its next-generation AI model, 'Astra,' due to its potential dangerous cyber offensive and defensive capabilities. Internal assessments at OpenAI revealed that Astra has made significant breakthroughs in autonomous code writing and cybersecurity, and currently, the possibility of it reaching a 'critical risk' level cannot be ruled out. Previously, OpenAI's previous models, including GPT-5.6 Sol and others, were all assessed as 'high risk' in terms of safety risks.
