Recently, major Wall Street asset management firms have been hit by a large-scale voice phishing cyberattack, with top hedge funds such as Two Sigma, Citadel, and Point72, as well as multiple private equity firms, becoming targets. Two Sigma successfully thwarted the attack, preventing any data or system losses. Industry insiders state that artificial intelligence tools have reduced the cost for hackers to launch large-scale targeted attacks, and such threats are now penetrating deeper into the financial services sector. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) in the United States has communicated with member institutions regarding the attack, and its Financial Intelligence Fusion Center can share threat intelligence and coordinate responses, as the alternative asset management industry faces systemic risks.
