In a bid to bolster South Korea's standing in the global AI technology race and facilitate the widespread adoption of AI services, the construction of the National AI Computing Power Center—dubbed the "AI Expressway"—has officially commenced. On August 3, the Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea marked the occasion with a groundbreaking ceremony held at the SolaciDo Data Center Park, located in Haenam-gun, Gwangju, Jeollanam-do.

This ambitious project, backed by a substantial investment of 2.5 trillion won, will span an impressive area of approximately 48,000 square meters. It will feature the construction of a state-of-the-art, two-story facility, slated for completion and operational launch by 2028.

Last year, Samsung SDS took the lead in forming a formidable consortium, partnering with industry giants such as NAVER Cloud, Samsung C&T, Samsung Electronics, Kakao, and KT, as well as local government entities including the Gwangju Metropolitan Government and the Southwest Coast Enterprise City Development Corporation. Through a rigorous public tender process, this consortium emerged victorious, securing the rights to undertake this landmark project.
