On August 3, reports emerged indicating that the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) has been conducting in-depth research on the AI industry, with projections for its scale in 2025. According to CAICT’s estimates, China’s AI industry is poised to exceed RMB 1.2 trillion by 2025, representing a robust 40% year-on-year growth. By June 2026, the number of AI enterprises in China had surged past 6,600, accounting for 15% of the global total. Moreover, China has established a comprehensive industrial ecosystem, spanning foundational infrastructure, model frameworks, and industry applications.
The AI industry chain is composed of three key layers: the foundational layer, the model framework layer, and the application layer. In 2025, the foundational layer’s industry scale is projected to expand by 59% year-on-year, contributing 38% to the overall industry. The model framework layer is expected to see a staggering 189% year-on-year increase, representing 7% of the total. Meanwhile, the application layer’s scale is anticipated to rise by 22% year-on-year, making up 55% of the industry.
Looking ahead, CAICT will persist in strengthening industrial monitoring, clarifying the landscape of industrial development, and promptly grasping industry trends. These efforts aim to support government decision-making and foster the healthy development of the AI industry.
