Amazon Completes Full Investment of US$50 Billion in OpenAI

On July 31 local time, Amazon disclosed in its 10-Q quarterly report that it had completed a full investment of US$50 billion in OpenAI. The investment was made in stages: US$15 billion was invested in the first quarter of this year, US$13.7 billion in the second quarter, and the remaining US$21.3 billion was invested after the reporting period, all of which was used to purchase Series C preferred shares of OpenAI. Amazon stated that if OpenAI completes an initial public offering (IPO) or other liquidity events, the issued Series C preferred shares will be converted into common shares. The company anticipates that it will be subject to customary lock-up periods and subsequent applicable securities laws following the IPO.
