The 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference has commenced in Shanghai. At one of the sub-forums, the director of the National Energy Administration announced that China is set to expedite the development of a new energy system to drive the advancement of AI. During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, inference loads are anticipated to emerge as the main consumers of computing power. This shift will require a move towards multi-faceted coordination in computing-electricity synergy, along with an integrated layout that harmonizes core elements. By 2025, China's computing facilities are expected to consume 170 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, marking a year-on-year increase of around 30% and accounting for 1.6% of the total societal electricity consumption. This proportion is projected to climb to 6% by 2030. As of the end of June this year, China's total installed power generation capacity has surpassed 4 billion kilowatts, with renewable energy capacity exceeding 2.4 billion kilowatts, ranking first in the world.
