The legal tussle between Apple and OpenAI has recently taken a more intense turn. As per reports, Apple has dispatched legal notices to around 40 of its ex-employees who are now employed at OpenAI. These notices instruct them to retain all pertinent documents and communication records that could be linked to the case and to refrain from deleting them. Earlier, on July 10, Apple initiated legal proceedings in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, officially suing OpenAI along with two former Apple staff members. Apple alleges that they have been systematically pilfering top-tier trade secrets, including unreleased products, components, and supplier relationships, by luring former Apple employees to expedite the development of their consumer-grade AI hardware devices. Apple further asserts that more than 400 of its ex-employees are currently working at OpenAI. In February of this year, Apple sent a letter to OpenAI, voicing its concerns and seeking discussions, but to no avail.
