On July 3, according to CNBC, US President Trump stated on Thursday that the scale of AI development will surpass that of internet construction in the late 1990s, a view supported by total capital expenditures. Goldman Sachs' 2025 estimates show that AI capital expenditures will need to reach $700 billion by 2026 to match the spending levels during the peak of telecommunications construction in the late 1990s. The investment bank predicted in May that AI capital expenditures will reach $765 billion this year and are expected to increase to $1.6 trillion in annual spending by 2031. Additionally, Trump predicted that by the end of his term, 40% to 60% of chip manufacturing will be located in the US.
