Sun Tianxiang, a renowned technical expert in the field of large-scale models, has officially taken on the role of Head of Baidu’s Basic Model Research and Development Department (BMU) and has become a member of the Baidu Model Committee (BMC). Previously, Baidu had already established the BMU, alongside the Applied Model Research and Development Department (AMU), which is led by Jia Lei. In recent times, Baidu has been actively pursuing organizational restructuring and talent development within the AI sector. The company has not only set up the Baidu Model Committee but has also consistently onboarded young technical talents, thereby gradually constructing a systematic talent framework centered on foundational models. Notably, Baidu’s recently open-sourced end-to-end OCR model, Unlimited OCR, has achieved significant recognition, ranking highly on the GitHub Daily Trending list, as well as the Python and HuggingFace global model overall trending lists, and the multimodal model trending list. Just five days after its release, the model garnered over 10,000 GitHub Stars.
