The U.S. government has repealed the export restrictions imposed on Anthropic’s premier large-scale models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, which are estimated to be worth $1 trillion. This decision brings an end to the weeks-long deadlock between the two parties. According to sources close to the situation, on the evening of June 30, the U.S. Department of Commerce informed Anthropic that it would lift the prohibition on overseas users accessing these two models, permitting a gradual resumption of global access from July 1 onwards. Earlier, the U.S. government had invoked national security concerns and mandated that Anthropic promptly disable these two models, causing a disruption in their normal use by global users for a certain period. The repeal of the ban is subject to Anthropic’s pledge to actively detect and alleviate the security risks linked to the models, in addition to the adoption of numerous safety protocols.
