On May 28, Nikkei Asia reported that approximately 30 leading Japanese companies in fields such as chemicals, robotics, automotive, and electronics are considering investing in SoftBank's newly established AI joint venture to promote the development of domestic AI in Japan. The first batch of around 10 companies is expected to decide on investments amounting to tens of millions of yen in June. SoftBank, NEC, Honda Motor, and Sony Group are the core investors, each holding more than 10% stake. The joint venture plans to develop a top-tier AI model with approximately 1 trillion parameters by 2027, upgrade it to multimodal AI by 2029, and achieve integrated processing of physical data by the early 2030s.
