On the 29th (local time), cybersecurity company SentinelOne unveiled its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 and revealed plans to lay off roughly 8% of its workforce, amounting to approximately 230 employees, some of whom are stationed in Israel. Following this announcement, the company's stock price took a nosedive, dropping to $14.85 (around RMB 100.9) in after-hours trading. CEO Tomer Weingarten explained that the layoffs are intended to boost operational efficiency and steer the business towards the more profitable AI sector. These layoffs will incur a one-time cost of $25 million (approximately RMB 170 million), with half earmarked for severance pay and the other half related to stock-based compensation. The financial report indicated that the company's revenue for the quarter saw a 21% year-on-year increase, reaching $277 million (about RMB 1.881 billion). However, it also reported an operating loss of $79 million (around RMB 537 million) and a net loss of $76 million (approximately RMB 516 million). SentinelOne is a specialist in AI-powered cybersecurity solutions, offering products such as the Singularity Platform. Since 2023, the global tech industry has been swept by a wave of large-scale layoffs. Tech behemoths like Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, and Meta, along with consulting firm Accenture, have all announced layoff plans. As we step into 2026, this trend of job cuts persists, with Microsoft anticipating a continued year-on-year decline in its workforce in the upcoming quarters as it strives to build a leaner and more efficient team.
