On May 28th, it was reported that the State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Development and Reform Commission have recently co-released the "Guidelines for the Construction of AI Metrology Systems and Capabilities (2026 Edition)". This document is aimed at comprehensively strategizing the development of AI metrology capabilities. The Guidelines delve into six key areas: foundational infrastructure, general technologies, core technologies, metrological technical standards, industry-specific metrology services, and the intelligent enhancement of metrology practices. Their primary objective is to bridge the divide between laboratory innovations and their practical application in industries. Addressing challenges such as the 'measurement inaccuracies' inherent in AI, along with issues of algorithmic opacity and a lack of decision-making transparency, the Guidelines advocate for advancements in pivotal technologies, including the internal state monitoring of AI systems. They also emphasize the importance of establishing robust, secure, and reliable AI metrology standards, ensuring that AI technology's performance is quantifiable, comparable, and traceable.
