AI behemoth OpenAI has inked a multi-year cooperation pact with the Singaporean government, pledging more than US$234 million to establish its inaugural applied AI laboratory outside the United States in Singapore. The laboratory will concentrate on three pivotal domains: aiding local public and private entities in implementing state-of-the-art AI technologies, fostering local AI expertise, and encouraging the broad-based integration of AI technologies among the general populace and enterprises. OpenAI intends to partner with Singapore's Ministry of Education and the Government Technology Agency to co-create AI educational resources and roll out a Singaporean iteration of the OpenAI Academy. It is anticipated that the laboratory will generate over 200 technical roles in Singapore in the years ahead, encompassing technical experts and engineers, thereby assisting Singapore in emerging as a pivotal nexus for OpenAI's global frontier deployment engineers. This strategic move signifies a pivotal milestone in OpenAI's commercialization endeavors in Southeast Asia and on a global scale.
