On April 17, 2026, OpenAI announced a major update to its AI programming assistant, Codex, introducing new capabilities for Mac desktop application operation, supporting multi-agent parallel operation and long-term task execution. Codex can now autonomously control Mac desktop applications, including screen recognition, click interactions, and text input.
