According to sources familiar with the matter, Google is discussing an agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense that would allow the Pentagon to deploy Google's Gemini large model in classified environments. If the agreement is reached, it would expand Google's cooperative relationship with the Pentagon as a technology contractor and mark a significant shift in Google's stance on military collaboration. Google has proposed adding additional clauses to the contract to prevent its artificial intelligence from being used for domestic mass surveillance or autonomous weapons systems unless there is 'appropriate' human supervision and control. Currently, negotiations are moving toward reaching an agreement.
