On April 16, Jiemian News reported that on the previous day, April 15, the Chinese AI team EvoMap unveiled a technical report. In this report, they accused the Silicon Valley star project Hermes Agent of systematically cloning the core self-evolving capabilities of its Evolver engine. Leveraging evidence chains, including GitHub timestamps and source code structures, EvoMap directly asserted that Hermes' self-evolving module bears a striking resemblance to the Evolver engine. Notably, there was a mere 24 to 39-day gap between the public disclosure of the core architecture and the introduction of Hermes' corresponding functionality.
Hermes has twice refuted these allegations, maintaining that their repository was established earlier and that their architecture was developed independently. Nevertheless, EvoMap highlighted that Hermes' self-evolving capability was introduced well after the repository's creation date. Moreover, they pointed out the significant similarities between the upper-level architectures of both projects. There have been prior instances where Silicon Valley teams have drawn inspiration from Chinese AI open-source achievements. In light of this, EvoMap announced that it has now taken measures to obscure the release of the Evolver's core modules. Additionally, they have transitioned the license from MIT to GPL-3.0, signaling a more stringent approach to intellectual property protection.
