OpenAI has decided to withdraw from its initial plan of directly leasing computing resources from the data center operated by Nscale, a UK-based AI cloud service provider, in Norway. Instead, Microsoft will assume control over the remaining computing capacity at the facility, with OpenAI currently in discussions with Microsoft regarding leasing arrangements. Earlier, OpenAI had been in talks to lease approximately half of the data center’s computing power, but an agreement with Nscale could not be reached, prompting Microsoft to swiftly intervene. Furthermore, Microsoft plans to deepen its partnership at the Narvik campus by deploying an additional 30,000+ NVIDIA Rubin series GPUs.
