The Hermes Agent, an open-source project that has gained significant traction for its "lobster-like" agent capabilities, has amassed over 85,000 stars on GitHub. It is widely regarded as a promising contender to the established "Lobster" model. However, on April 15, the Chinese AI team EvoMap published a technical comparison report, highlighting numerous striking similarities between Hermes Agent and their own open-source Evolver architecture.

In response, the Hermes development team, Nous Research, initially issued a strong rebuttal but subsequently removed the relevant comments. Meanwhile, co-founder Teknium has categorically denied the plagiarism allegations. The online community has been abuzz with diverse opinions on the matter. EvoMap has clarified that they initially embraced an open and transparent approach to open-sourcing their work. Nevertheless, they now voice their discontent over what they perceive as a lack of respect for open-source code, citing practices such as obfuscating core modules, altering protocols, and adopting a closed-source stance. The reporter made efforts to reach out to the EvoMap team for further comment but has not yet received a reply.
