On April 14 (local time), Anthropic announced that it is introducing an identity verification mechanism for certain use cases of Claude. Claude is a large language model built by Anthropic, and users may encounter verification prompts when accessing specific features. This move is part of security and compliance measures, such as platform integrity checks, and the verification data is used solely to confirm user identities. Anthropic has selected Persona Identities as its verification partner. Users will need to prepare a valid government-issued photo ID, a phone or computer with a camera, and set aside a few minutes to complete the verification process. The service accepts original, physical government-issued photo IDs from most countries and does not accept copies, etc. After account verification, accounts may be disabled in cases such as repeated violations of usage policies, account creation from unsupported locations, violation of the terms of service, or use by individuals under 18 years old. Additionally, Anthropic commitment s (here translates as 'pledges') not to use identity data to train models, not to collect unnecessary information, and not to share identity data with others (except in response to valid legal processes as required by law).
