On April 15, 2026, it was reported that the U.S. Treasury Department's technical team is seeking access to Anthropic's AI model, Mythos, to identify potential vulnerabilities in the banking sector. Treasury Chief Information Officer Sam Corcos is pushing for the model's integration to be completed as soon as this week. Currently, Anthropic has only granted access to the model to a select few institutions. Corcos has briefed the Treasury's cybersecurity team on the model's technical capabilities and instructed them to proactively guard against AI offense and defense risks. Last week, Treasury Secretary Bessent and Federal Reserve Chair Powell convened a meeting with Wall Street executives to discuss the potential cybersecurity challenges posed by Mythos. Anthropic has warned that the model could be exploited for cyberattacks if companies fail to adequately test their systems and establish defensive measures. Regulators are urging financial institutions to take the matter seriously and leverage the model to detect system vulnerabilities. Despite the U.S. Department of Defense designating Anthropic as a supply chain risk earlier this year, the Treasury is still moving forward with access, underscoring Mythos's strategic importance. Several Wall Street banks, including JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Bank of America, and Morgan Stanley, have already begun internal testing of Mythos.
