On Tuesday, Meta announced that it has reached an extended agreement with Broadcom to collaborate on producing multiple generations of custom artificial intelligence processors, extending the partnership until 2029, with a commitment to provide an initial computing capacity exceeding 1 gigawatt. As part of the agreement, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan will step down from Meta's board of directors and transition to an advisory role. As AI drives a surge in computing demand, major tech companies are designing their own chips to reduce reliance on Nvidia's processors, with the development of custom chips making Broadcom one of the winners. Meta's CEO stated that this collaboration will help build a massive computing infrastructure. Previously, Meta has unveiled a new chip roadmap, and Broadcom's Ethernet technology will be used to connect its AI computer clusters. Additionally, Tracy Travis, who has served as a director since 2020, will not seek re-election.
