According to an April 12 report by the Financial Times, financial regulators in the UK are holding emergency meetings with government cybersecurity agencies and leading banks. The aim is to assess the cybersecurity risks linked to Anthropic's latest AI model, Claude Mythos Preview. The Bank of England, the Financial Conduct Authority, the Treasury, and the National Cyber Security Centre are collaborating to scrutinize the potential threats this model could pose to vital IT systems. Earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent had organized a gathering of Wall Street banks to deliberate on analogous risks. Anthropic has clarified that this model, developed under the 'Project Glasswing' initiative, is accessible only to select organizations for the purpose of defensive cybersecurity testing. So far, it has successfully pinpointed 'thousands' of critical vulnerabilities in software like operating systems and browsers, including long-standing zero-day flaws in OpenBSD, FFmpeg, and similar platforms. Within the next two weeks, representatives from major UK banks, insurance firms, and exchanges are anticipated to receive risk briefings from the regulators.
