AI hardware startup Tiny Corp announced on social media that Apple has approved NVIDIA's external graphics processing unit (eGPU) drivers, enabling them to run on Macs equipped with Apple Silicon chips to enhance processing capabilities for AI and large language models. Previously, Mac users were unable to upgrade their configurations with external graphics cards. This driver update simplifies the installation process, allowing users to directly connect GPU devices to their Mac hosts without complex setup. Tiny Corp's drivers are optimized specifically for AI large model computations and are not intended for gaming purposes. With the growing popularity of AI agents, there has been a surge in demand for high-performance Macs among professional users, prompting Apple to adjust the configurations of its Mac Studio product line to address supply chain pressures. This collaboration has lowered the barriers to AI development, enabling ordinary Mac devices to handle small to medium-scale training tasks.
