On April 3, 2026, artificial intelligence (AI) firm Anthropic made headlines by announcing the launch of its corporate Political Action Committee (PAC), dubbed AnthroPAC, and registering it with the U.S. Federal Election Commission. The funding for this committee comes from voluntary contributions made by its employees, with each individual being able to donate up to $5,000 annually. Its primary objective is to bolster bipartisan federal candidates gearing up for the 2026 midterm elections, with a special emphasis on candidates who are actively engaged in shaping artificial intelligence policy.

AnthroPAC is overseen by a board of directors composed of members from across the political spectrum, with Allison Rossi taking the helm as treasurer. The establishment of AnthroPAC signifies Anthropic's formal foray into the arena of U.S. political donations. Prior to this, Anthropic had already demonstrated its commitment to advancing AI-related policies by donating a substantial $20 million to the bipartisan organization Public First Action, which focuses on promoting AI safety and transparency initiatives.

The impetus behind the creation of this PAC stems from Anthropic's ongoing legal battles with the U.S. government. These include disputes with the Pentagon over the terms of AI utilization and legal countermeasures taken by Anthropic after being placed on the list of 'National Security Supply Chain Risk Enterprises.' By engaging in political donations, Anthropic aims to exert influence over the formulation of AI regulatory policies, thereby safeguarding its interests in government procurement processes and ensuring favorable market access conditions.
