Google is stepping up its efforts in developing the Gemini AI application, specifically tailored for Apple's Mac lineup, in a bid to bolster its competitive edge against OpenAI and Anthropic. This week, Google confidentially released an early iteration of the app to users enrolled in its consumer Beta testing program, with the objective of soliciting feedback and pinpointing any potential glitches. The present version encompasses solely the fundamental features and has not yet incorporated the full array of capabilities. Google has encouraged testers to delve into various functions, such as generating images and videos, performing mathematical computations, and analyzing information. Considering that both OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude have already rolled out Mac-compatible versions of their apps, Google's initiative is geared towards keeping pace with the competition. A spokesperson from Google refrained from revealing a precise launch date, yet the commencement of external testing indicates that the app's official release is imminent, internally referred to as 'Janus'.
