This move comes in the wake of a dispute between the two parties concerning restrictions on the utilization of AI technology. Anthropic has established two firm boundaries for its flagship model, Claude: it shall not be employed for extensive surveillance targeting U.S. citizens, nor for the creation or endorsement of fully autonomous weapon systems. However, the Pentagon insisted that all AI suppliers lift these restrictions, a demand that Anthropic rejected, ultimately leading to the breakdown of negotiations. Trump has instructed federal agencies to cease using Anthropic's technology and has set a six-month transition period. Anthropic has subsequently filed a lawsuit against the government, seeking a preliminary injunction from the court to prevent the ban from coming into force during the litigation process.
