Following the controversy sparked by Anthropic PBC’s use of artificial intelligence technology, the Trump administration is moving to legally exclude the company from U.S. government agencies. In court filings, the U.S. Department of Justice asserted that, due to national security concerns, the terms under which Anthropic’s AI technology is offered are no longer acceptable to the executive branch. Earlier, Anthropic had clashed with the U.S. Department of Defense over its refusal to permit its AI technology to be used in mass surveillance and autonomous weapons systems, leading to its designation as an entity posing a “national security supply chain risk.” In response, the company has initiated legal action and cautioned that this measure could result in revenue losses amounting to billions of dollars this year.
