On March 14, the Financial Times reported that in Elon Musk's lawsuit seeking over $130 billion in damages against OpenAI and its partner Microsoft, the presiding judge suggested that Musk's claim was based on 'fabricated figures out of thin air,' yet ruled that the case could proceed to a jury trial. During a pretrial hearing, OpenAI's lawyers attempted to persuade the judge to exclude testimony from Musk's expert witness, who supported the $134 billion damages request. Musk accused OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, of fraud for abandoning their non-profit origins after his charitable donations. The judge stated that a decision would not be made based solely on a motion but would allow the jury to hear the evidence. The case is set to go to trial in April.
