During the 2026 sessions of the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Wang Jian, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, remarked that electricity does not pose a bottleneck for China's artificial intelligence (AI) development. He emphasized that China need not face electricity-related anxieties akin to those in the United States. Wang Jian highlighted substantial differences in industrial foundations, national circumstances, and power grid conditions between the two countries. He noted that China has consistently ramped up investment in power grid construction, leading to continuous enhancements in power supply capabilities and infrastructure. The development of clean energy in western China has achieved remarkable outcomes. By harnessing ultra-high-voltage direct current transmission technology, China has accomplished efficient cross-regional allocation of clean energy, thereby establishing a robust energy foundation for the growth of the AI industry. Wang Jian is confident that AI technology will continue to achieve breakthroughs towards "low energy consumption and high computing power," with computing costs gradually declining. He anticipates that when the smart economy is fully realized in the future, the cost of computing power will cease to be a barrier.
