On the evening of March 7, data released by the China Office of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) revealed that China secured the top spot globally in both international patents and industrial design applications for the year 2025. Specifically, the number of international patent applications submitted through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) soared to 73,718, while the number of international industrial design applications filed via the Hague System reached 5,911. Regarding international patent applications, China led the pack with 73,718 submissions, marking a 5.3% increase from the previous period. The United States, Japan, South Korea, and Germany trailed behind in the rankings. As for international industrial design applications, China again claimed the first position with 5,911 applications, reflecting a notable 21.4% surge. Germany, the United States, Switzerland, and Italy occupied the second to fifth positions, respectively.
